Master of Typography

Matthew Carter Poster

This is what I’m working on for my Graphic Design Methodology class. My assigned designer is Matthew Carter. He designs typefaces and not exactly graphic design things with type.

Media: Illustrator, Photoshop, papercraft, ink

Honestly speaking, I hate this poster. But it’s due on Wednesday and my professor is fine with it, so maybe if I care at all, I can redo this later on. But for grades purposes, I’ll just let this idea be.

If you don’t know Matthew Carter, he’s a modern master of typography. He designed fonts like Verdana, Georgia, and Tahoma. Which are the most used typefaces on the web. They’re pretty nice. The curves and fluidity of Georgia is really elegant, yet modern. The numbers being based on the x-height and going down to the descender line is also pretty neat. And Tahoma and Verdana are easy to read. I don’t really agree with IKEA using Verdana for everything. Especially since they’re Swedish and Sweden has some awesome design. But anyway, yeah, Matthew Carter has gone through probably the biggest changes in the typography world and still designing typefaces.

This week is gonna be a busy one. Oh dear.
